The experience of health is individual, based on our unique makeup, the problems or deficits we have started with, and how well we have adapted, changed, and improved our lot - as well as our personal expectations, aspirations and understandings of what we can attain. In any case, health certainly means freedom from the debilitating, weakening effects of chronic illness, but is much more than this. In its true sense, health can be defined as having the internal capacity and freedom to experience and explore one's fullest human potential.
Physical Health
Physical health is characterized by optimal digestion, assimilation, detoxification and metabolism, right down to the level of each cell. The healthy body and mind function as an integrated whole, not as fragmented elements, which is characteristic of disease. As a side product of this level oh health, one feels dynamic, energetic, alive, vital, vibrant. From this healthy state we can respond effectively to environmental stress, toxins or infection, quickly returning to our previous state of health.
Psychological Health
Psychological health is characterized by an inner level of peace and joy, not as a continual feeling, but as an internal foundation of our experience in the world. This includes an integration of our 'dark side', hidden impulses or negativity tat we consciously deny, yet act our unconsciously. A healthy emotional core expresses confidence and assurance - an unconditional 'okayness'. From this basis, motivation, interest, curiosity and engagement with life automatically arise, along with the courage and determination needed to meet challenges and express ourselves creatively in the world. Free from debilitating anxiety, depression, overwhelming anger and frustration, our wholeness can radiate outwards into non-dysfunctional, mutually beneficial relationships with others and a capacity for tolerance, compassion and love.
Spiritual Health
Spiritual Health is expressed by an integration of intuition and intellect, of vision and reason. It is characterized by a clarity of perception, free from habitual judgements or associations and a clear vision about the central meaning of one's life, from which we derive our goals, our purpose and motivation, and our system of values. Spiritual evolution involves an ongoing process of finding deeper truth, meanings, and insights. Lack of inner cohesion or congruence is one of the greatest problems challenging people today. The development of a healthy sense of self is the ultimate healing antidote for the narcissistic, selfish patterns that are epidemic causes of suffering and illness.
